Risk Factors that Increase your Chances of Heart Disease
While anyone has a chance of developing heart disease, there are some risk factors that increase the likeliness that it will occur. One of them is your age, so as you get older you need to eat better and you need to stay active. When we are young, we tend to eat what we want and we never seem to gain a pound. When we get older though our metabolism slows down.
Eating right at any age though will decrease your risk of heart disease. Parents often worry about their children, and do all they can to help them be healthy. One of the best gifts you can provide your child with is healthy eating habits from a young age. It will serve them well as adults too.
Individuals that live a sedentary lifestyle are more at risk for heart disease. You may have a job you love, but you are sitting in front of a computer screen for many hours a day. Even with the busiest of schedules, you have to fit some time into your day to relax and then to exercise. If you feel that you push it out of the way too often, do it first thing in the morning.
While it may not seem fair, gender plays a role in it too. Men are more likely to suffer from heart disease than women. However, the number of women diagnosed with it every year is very high. It doesn't mean that women should just ignore the risk. Women who have gone through menopause are going to be more at risk.
Individuals with high levels of cholesterol and high blood pressure are at risk for heart disease. Do all you can to keep those health concerns under control. Your genetics can be a factor as well that increase your risk of heart disease. However, that doesn't mean you should give up and just let it happen. The more you strive to reduce your risk of heart disease the better off you are going to be. Just because you have a family history of it, you don't necessarily have to follow in those same footsteps.
